Our experts have a wealth of experience in the corporate practice and are known for their active engagement in the Ethiopian regulatory reform processes.

Hawaz Merawi

Hawaz Merawi has an extensive experience in private practice within law firms and multinational corporations with a focus in tax law, commercial law, and energy and infrastructure matters. He heads the Firm’s Tax, Energy and Infrastructure Practice. He is also a regular contributor to IBFD on Ethiopian tax matters.

Combining legal and accounting expertise, Hawaz is skilled in providing practical legal solutions, looking at all the moving parts of the business together through a legal and business lens. Hawaz has previously advised clients across a range of industries including the following:

  • Advised a multilateral development bank in relation to a loan facility provided to a local investor.
  • Advised a leading global beer company on the acquisition its two local breweries.
  • Advised a multinational construction company on tax planning in relation to its construction projects in Ethiopia.
  • Advised a biding consortium on its bid for 250MW solar projects in Ethiopia.
  • Advised one of the largest banks in relation to the financing of a PPP project in Ethiopia

Kefale Aschale

Kefale Aschale is head of Corporate and IP Practice at Addis Partners. Previously, Kefale has worked in law firm and he was part of the technical team working on legislative reforms including the Commercial Code and other civil rights laws. He also teaches commercial law at Dire-Dawa University.

Kefale’s practice centers on commercial law, intellectual property, and real estate law. He has previously advised clients on commercial law, IP, energy and real estate matters including:

  • A global energy company in its wind energy project in Ethiopia.
